Islanders sign F Liam Peyton

The Charlottetown Islanders added a forward in response to the loss of overager Adam Marsh. Instead of bringing in another overager, they decided to go younger.

The Islanders signed former Kitchener Rangers forward, 17 year-old Liam Peyton. The move became official today.

“He really fits our identity.” said head coach and GM Jim Hulton on Friday following the win against the Halifax Mooseheads. “He’s a work ethic guy first and foremost. All the reports said he was a great kid, in terrific shape, and worked extremely hard.”

“Those are all mantras we like to hear on our club, and the video backed that up.”

Peyton is a former sixth-round pick of the Rangers. He spent the majority of last season with the Gloucester Rangers of the CCHL, tallying seven goals and ten points in 38 games. In four games over the past two seasons with Kitchener, Peyton has one goal.

The 6’0 forward is excited for a fresh start on the east coast.

“I just wanna come in and really enjoy myself. Really be a role player with the Islanders.” said Peyton.

While Hulton doesn’t expect any more moves to be made in the meantime, he says the team is employing a “stand pat” approach as the beginning of the trade period approaches.

“Well we have to wait and see what happens at the trade period, but this will be it for now,” said Hulton. “Like anybody, we’ll see what happens at the trade period, but unlike last year we’re not gonna be really active one way or the other.”

While Peyton officially joins the team today, it remains to be seen whether or not Peyton will be in the lineup tomorrow when the team plays the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
