The 2017 CIBC Canada-Russia Series came to end Thursday night in Moncton, where Team QMJHL and Team Russia did battle in a ‘winner-take-all’ Game 6.

It didn’t take too long for the teams to open the scoring. Almost halfway through the first period, Russian forward Alexey Polodyan fired a powerful one-timer past goaltender Samuel Harvey, beating him in the top-left corner.

However, Team QMJHL quickly came back to tie the game roughly two minutes later, with Pascal Laberge re-directing a shot from the blue line which found its way to the back of the net.

After a scoreless second period, Team Russia added another goal in the final frame, with barely three minutes of play left. This time, Vitalii Abramov put a finishing touch on a beautiful passing play with German Rubstov. This goal would prove to be the game winner, with Russia going on to win the game 2-1.

Things didn’t all end there though. With the series tied 9-9 in points, both teams had to go to a shootout to determine the series’ winner. It was here that the QMJHL consolidated their series’ win, with Samuel Harvey stopping every shooter he faced. Maxime Comtois then scored the lone QMJHL goal to seal the win for his team.

In net for the QMJHL, Samuel Harvey stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced to earn the win. For Team Russia, Alexey Melnichuk made 23 saves on 24 shots on goal.
