Oceanic takes Lafreniere with first overall pick
The Rimouski Oceanic got their guy by selecting Alexis Lafreniere first overall at the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft in Saint John, N.B. on Saturday June 4, 2017.
Lafreniere, 15, spent the past season with the Saint-Eustache Vikings of the QMAAA where he had 33 goals and 83 points 36 games. The season prior with the Mille-Isles Seigneurs of QBAAA (Bantam), the six-foot, 170-pound frame scored 35 goals and 69 points in 26 games.
The native of St-Eustache, Que., was ranked No. 1 on the CRS Finals Ranking for the draft.
Rimouski is set to select again at the No. 10 and 12 spots respectively but is subject to change barring any trades.
