Wildcats acquire defenceman Welsh from Cataractes

2 - Welsh

The Moncton Wildcats acquired defenceman Nicholas Welsh from the Shawinigan Cataractes on Friday June 2, 2017.

In return, the Wildcats send a third-round pick in 2017, 50th overall, and a sixth-round pick in 2019. The move completes the deal that saw Cam Askew join the Cataractes at the holiday trading period.

Welsh, 20, was selected in the second round, 33rd overall by the Cataractes in 2013 and has played the past four seasons in Shawinigan. The native of Halifax, N.S., has 261 regular season games on his resume with 115 points and 162 penalty minutes. His post-season experience includes 17 points in 38 games.

The trade was made official by the QMJHL on Friday. The QMJHL Draft is Saturday June 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. AST in Saint John, N.B.
