Sea Dogs sweep Armada to win 2017 President Cup title

BOISBRIAND, QUE. – The Saint John Sea Dogs are champions again.

The Sea Dogs defeated the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 5-1 on Wednesday to capture the team’s third President Cup title in franchise history. The team’s most recent championship, prior to this year, was in 2012.

With the win, the Sea Dogs win the best-of-seven league final 4-0.

Spencer Smallman had two goals while Bokondji Imama, Simon Bourque and Matthew Highmore added single markers for the Sea Dogs.

Pierre-Luc Dubois had the lone goal for the Armada.

Callum Booth made 20 saves in the win for Saint John. Samuel Montembeault stopped 29 of 34 shots in the loss for Blainville-Boisbriand.

Saint John will now advance to the MasterCard Memorial Cup, May 19-28 in Windsor, Ont. The Sea Dogs will open the national championship against the host Windsor Spitfires on May 19.
