Sea Dogs’ Booth named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
The Canadian Hockey League announced Tuesday that Callum Booth of the Saint John Sea Dogs has been named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending on May 7.
Booth, 19, made 51 saves in the first two games of the QMJHL’s President Cup final backstopping the top-ranked Sea Dogs to a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 President Cup final. In game 1 on Friday, Booth made 24 saves as part of a 6-3 Saint John win at Harbour Station. He stopped 27 shots to lead the Dogs to a 3-0 win in game two. He set a franchise record with his third shut-out of the playoffs.
The Carolina Hurricanes prospect is playing in his fourth QMJHL season and first with the Sea Dogs after being acquired from the Quebec Remparts in December.
So far in the 2017 QMJHL Playoffs, the fourth round pick of the Hurricanes in the 2015 NHL Draft carries a 14-2 record with the league’s best goals-against-average with a mark of 1.81 along with the second best save percentage at .917.
