NHL Canes sign Sea Dogs Smallman
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Spencer Smallman of the Saint John Sea Dogs to a three-year entry-level contract.
Smallman is coming off a career high year with 79 points (30 goals, 49 assists) in 60 games for the Sea Dogs after their sweep from the Oceanic. All three categories are career highs for the PEI native.
He was drafted in the fifth round (138 overall) by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2015. Born in PEI, but raised in N.B., he led the Sea Dogs with power play points as well with 38 points (14 g, 24 a).
Smallman will receive $650,000 in 2017-18 and $700,00 in 2019-20 on the NHL level. If in the AHL, Smallman will receive $65,000 in 2017-18, $70,000 in 2018-19 and 2019-2020 with a signing bonus of $225,000.
