Olympiques’ Trenin named to Team Russia world junior roster


Gatineau Olympiques forward Yakov Trenin has been named to Team Russia’s roster for the 2017 World Junior Championship.

The 19-year-old, Chelyabinsk, Russia native is in his third QMJHL season with the Olympiques and has 13 goals and 25 points in 24 games this season. Gatineau drafted the six-foot-two, 193-frame centreman 32nd overall in the 2014 CHL Import Draft. He has collected 57 goals and 153 points in 139 regular season QMJHL games.

Trenin was drafted in the second round, 55th overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2017 World Junior Championship takes place in Toronto and Montreal. Russia opens the tournament on Boxing Day against Canada at 9 p.m. AST.
