CIBC Canada Russia Series: Team QMJHL defeats Team Russia in Series finale
BAIE-COMEAU, QUE- Two days after recording their first ever shutout against Team Russia in the history of the series, Team QMJHL was at it again. This time, they defeated their opponents 4-1 at the Henry-Leonard Centre in Baie-Comeau on Thursday.
Forward Maxime Comtois led the way by scoring 2 goals. Gabriel Fontaine and Jean-Christophe Beaudin had the QMJHL’s other goals.
Comtois opened the scoring early in the first period, no later than 3:20 after the start of the game. He was able to jump on a loose puck and bury it in the back of net, after goaltender Anton Krasotkin made the initial save.
Klim Kostin tied the game at 12:37 in the second period, but exactly 8 seconds later, Gabriel Fontaine scored the QMJHL’s second goal of the game, putting them back in the lead. Jean-Christophe Beaudin then added another goal at 7:46 in the third frame.
Finally, with 2:35 left to play in the game, Comtois scored what would be the final blow to Team Russia while his team was on the penalty kill.
It is worth noting that QMJHL goaltender Evan Fitzpatrick made 19 saves to backstop his team to the win.
Overall, Team QMJHL outshot Team Russia 22 shots to 20.
Klim Kostin for Team Russia, and Jean-Christophe Beaudin for the QMJHL, were named players of the game for their respective teams.
