Wernblom’s shootout goal leads Sweden past Canada White


Lukas Wernblom goals in the ninth round of the shootout was the difference as Team Sweden defeated Team Canada White 3-2 in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge semifinal in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., on Friday.

With the win, Team Sweden will advance to the tournament gold medal game on Saturday, meanwhile Team Canada White will play for the bronze medal.

Samuel Fagemo and Marcus Westfält each scored goals in regulation time for Sweden.

Jackson Shepard and Barrett Hayton had goals for the Canadians.

Olof Lindbom made 29 saves for Team Sweden.

Olivier Rodrigue of the Drummondville Voltigeurs turned aside 31 of 33 shots for Team Canada White.
