Armada’s Crête-Belzile named alternate captain at Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup


A Blainville-Boisbriand Armada defenceman has been named a captain for Team Canada at this year’s Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Bratislava, Slovakia.

Antoine Crête-Belzile was named an alternate captain for the Canadians, who open the tournament on Monday against Slovakia.

Crête-Belzile, 16, appeared in 43 games last season with the Armada, recording three goals and 10 points, along with posting a minus-six rating and 14 penalty minutes.

Markus Phillips of the Owen Sound Attack (OHL) was named the team captain, while Owen Tippett of the Mississauga Stealheads (OHL) was named an alternate captain.

Crête-Belzile, a Quebec City, Que., native was drafted 11th overall by Blainville-Boisbriand at the 2015 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup will take place Aug. 8-13.
