Former QMJHL goalie heading to StFX
A former Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goaltender will continue his hockey career with the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men.
Chase Marchand, 20, will take his game to Antigonish for the upcoming season, committing to the university last Thursday.
The Upper Tantallon, N.S., native won a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League President Cup title with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies last season and backstopped his team to the MasterCard Memorial Cup in Red Deer, Alta. He was also named the QMJHL’s Goaltender of the Year.
In 98 career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games between the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Victoriaville Tigres and the Huskies, Marchand had 51 wins and 38 losses, along with posting a 3.04 goals-against-average and a .901 save percentage.
In 38 games last season in Rouyn-Nornada, Marchand had 29 wins and seven losses, along with posting a 2.42 goals-against-average and a .911 saver percentage.
In other team news, the university also added former Saint John Sea Dog and Quebec Rempart Marcus Cuomo to its roster for the upcoming season.
The X-Men open the 2016-17 AUS season against the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday, Oct. 7 in Halifax.
