Polei nets overtime winner as Red Deer eliminates Brandon from Memorial Cup


RED DEER, ALTA. – Evan Polei scored the game winner at 3:05 of overtime as the Red Deer Rebels edged the Brandon Wheat Kings 2-1 at the MasterCard Memorial Cup on Wednesday.

With the win, the Rebels eliminate the Wheat Kings from the Memorial Cup and advance to the tournament semifinals against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Friday.

Adam Musil found the back of the net for the Rebels in regulation time.

Tim McGauley had the lone goal for the Wheat Kings.

Rylan Toth made 33 saves in the win.

Jordan Papirny stopped 30 of 32 shots in the loss.
