Armada goalie Montembeault added to Team Canada roster

Just over a week after the Team Canada World Junior evaluation camp roster was announced, there is already a shake up and it involves the QMJHL.

Mackenzie Blackwood, one of two goalies invited to the camp, has been suspended for eight games by the OHL following a stick-swinging incident over the weekend. The suspension will cover the Barrie Colts’ next six regular season games, and the first two games of the World Juniors.

Blackwood is still allowed to participate in any pre-competition games.

This means Hockey Canada will have to add another goaltender to their roster and Samuel Montembeault of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada is the man. The 19-year-old Florida Panthers prospect owns a 2.79 goals against average and a 0.886 save percentage in 22 games so far this season.

Stephane Leroux of RDS confirmed the news via Twitter Tuesday evening.

If the above does materialize, the Canadian team would be rolling with a tandem of QMJHL goalies. The other ‘tender on the roster is Mason McDonald of the Charlottetown Islanders.
