Canada/Russia Series: Russia takes 3-2 win over QMJHL

Team Russia took a 3-2 decision over Team QMJHL in the fifth game of the 2015 Canada Russia Series at Arena Iamgold in Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Tuesday night.

The CHL now leads the series 12-3 in points.

Russia opened the scoring just 3:40 into the contest with Drummondville Voltigeurs defenceman Sergei Boikov scoring his first goal of the series. The goal was unassisted.

Russia made it 2-0 at 11:17 with Andrey Svetlakov scoring with a wrist shot from the hash marks that beat Team QMJHL goalie Samuel Montembeault.

The QMJHL cut the lead in half at 19:30 with a goal from Anthony Richard. Anthony Beauvillier and Julien Gauthier drew assists.

Shots were 10-6 in favour of Team QMJHL.

In the second period, it looked like the game was tied after Olivier Leblanc dumped the puck and it took a funky bounce off the boards and into an empty net to fool Russian goaltender Alexander Trushkov. The goal was called off due to offsides.

The QMJHL would get the goal back as Nicolas Roy tied the game at 15:07 with a power play goal. Samuel Girard and Nicolas Aube-Kubel picked up assists.

Russian regained the lead just 2:40 later with Artur Lauta beating Montembeault glove side on a breakaway for his second of the series. Arkhip Nekolenko drew the lone assist.

Shots were 18-8 in favour of Team QMJHL in the second period.

The third period was scoreless with QMJHL outshooting Russia 7-4.

Trushkov made 33 saves in the win for Russia as Montembeault took the loss for the QMJHL with 15 saves.

The final game of the series goes Thursday Nov. 19 in Halifax, N.S., at 8 p.m. ADT.
