NCAA Top 20 Preview Week of Nov. 12-Nov. 18

Welcome to another week of action here in the NCAA world some results as I touched upon last week lead to some shake ups in this weeks poll. Here are the upcoming schedules for this weeks Top 20 poll as well as my quick thoughts on this weekend’s tilts.

This weeks byes: University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks.

#1 Providence College Friars: Home-and-home series with #11 Boston University. I would not be surprised to see a split here with the home side taking both. Pick: Fri.-PC Sat.-BU

#2 Boston College Eagles: Non-Conference game at home against the Michigan State University Spartans. Spartans will give the Eagles a run for their money. Pick: Tie.

#3 University of North Dakota: Hosts #17 Miami-Ohio for a pair. Miami will test UND both nights, still feel UND is the much better team. Pick: Sweep for UND.

#4 University of Quinnipiac Bobcats: Busy weekend/week for the Bobcats. They host #7 Harvard University Friday night, while Dartmouth comes to town Saturday. QU also facesoff Tuesday night in Hartford, Conn., against the University of Connecticut Huskies. Pick: I am calling the first loss of the year for QU this weekend and it comes Friday night to the Crimson. Take the Win Sat. and Tues.

#5 University of Massachusetts-Lowell Riverhawks: After a weekend sweep at Vermont last weekend UML takes on a University of Maine team, in a Fri., Sun. home-and-home, that was shut out twice in their lastest action. Pick-Still see UML finding a way to take both.

#7 Harvard University Crimson: The Crimson head out on the road this weekend for two big conference games. On Friday they will be taking on the #4 Quinnipiac Bobcats, while Saturday they take on the Princeton University Tigers. Pick-Crimson make big road statement take both games.

#8 University of Denver Pioneers: DU has a lengthy traveling weekend ahead of them, they take on the University of Minnesota-Duluth this weekend as the Bulldogs are back at home. Pick- Bulldogs regroup pick up a couple points vs tough DU team. Pick: Fri.-UMD, Sat.- Tie.

#9 St. Cloud State University Huskies: St. Cloud is on the road after a bye week. Western Michigan is next up for the Huskies, and this Broncos team has shown that Kalamazoo is a tough place to go into and win. Pick-WMU sticks around, still not enough. Huskies sweep.

#10 Yale University Bulldogs: Yale was impressive last weekend taking three out of a possible four points on the road in their conference opener. This weekend sends the Bulldogs on the road to RPI and Union on Friday and Saturday respectfully. Pick: Bulldogs show tough road skin once again, two more wins for the boys of Yale.

#11 Boston University Terriers: Providence College up next on the slate for BU. Lucky for them they at least get to play one in their own barn and that helps. Pick: Fri. PC Sat. BU

#12 University of Michigan Wolverines: Just a lone game on the schedule this weekend for Big Blue, as they host the Niagara Purple Eagles in Ann Arbor on Friday. Pick- Big Blue uses the Eagles as a warm up for next weekend as they have to travel to Boston to take on BU. Michigan by at least three.

#13 University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs: UMD welcomes Denver to town after a sweep down in Omaha last weekend. Home is a big confidence builder for UMD, as they pick up needed points. Pick: Fri.-UMD, Sat.-Tie.

#14 Merrimack College Warriors: The Warriors have the pleasure of both a road trip and a home game this week. On Friday, MC heads out to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst to take on the Minutemen, then returns home to Andover to host the University of New Hampshire Wildcats Saturday. Pick: Warriors take both games by multiple goals.

#15 Bowling Green State University Falcons: The Falcons take to the road and head to Houghton, as the Michigan Tech Huskies are waiting at home. BGSU was able to pull off a tie on the road last week to and I think that helps to a point. Pick: Falcons Fri., Huskies Sat.

#15 St. Lawrence University Saints: Another unit with just a single game of action this week. The Saints welcome #19 Clarkson to town. Both teams struggled last weekend with just a total of three points taken between both teams out of a combined eight up for grabs with St. Lawrence picking up the victory. Pick: Both teams leave a point behind, tie.

#17 University of Miami-Ohio: The Redhawks are coming off two big home wins against Western Michigan, bit of a different scene this week as they travel to Ralph Engelstad Arena to take on the University of North Dakota. Pick: Redhawks will stick around and test UND, still going with the sweep for the home team.

#18 University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish: The Irish get an early start to the work week as they get underway Thursday night. The Northeastern University Huskies make the trip to-South Bend in a weekend Thursday and Friday series. Pick: NU struggling early, sitting at 1-7-1 and I just don’t see this roady as one of those team building ones, I could be very wrong. Still take the Irish for the sweep.

#19 Clarkson University Golden Knights: The Knights are one the road at St. Lawrence after picking up just a lone point last week in two home conference tilts. Pick: Again, I see the Golden Knights leaving one up for grabs, tie.

#20 Michigan Tech Huskies: The Huskies are back from Alabama, after a trip to Huntsville which rewarded them with two W’s. Still have to take into consideration they have a tough Bowling Green team that is also playing well early on. Pick- Falcons snatch Fri., Huskies respond Sat.
Enjoy the action!
