San Jose Sharks draft Timo Meier 9th overall


With the ninth pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, the San Jose Sharks select Timo Meier of the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads.

Meier, 18, hails from St. Gallen, Switzerland where he played his minor hockey with SC Herisau.

The six-foot-one power forward spent the past two seasons with the Mooseheads. As a rookie, Meier amassed 34 points in 66 games. In his sophomore year, the Swiss import scored 44 goals and 44 assists in 61 games played.

Meier becomes the first QMJHL-based player to be selected in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The draft continues tomorrow morning with rounds 2-7.
