New York Islanders draft Anthony Beauvillier 28th overall


With the 28th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, the New York Islanders selected Anthony Beauvillier of the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Beauvillier hails from Sorel-Tracy, Que. and played his minor hockey with AHM Bas-Richelieu.

Originally drafted second overall in the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft by the Cataractes, Beauvillier made his QMJHL debut in 2013-14.

As a rookie, Beauvillier tallied 33 points in 64 games. In his sophomore season, he amassed 94 points in 67 games.

The five-foot-10, 170-pound forward has represented his native Canada twice. Most recently, Beauvillier appeared in three games with Team Canada at the 2014 Ivan Hnlinka Memorial tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Beauvillier and the Canadians won the gold medal.

The 2015 NHL Entry Draft continues tomorrow in Sunrise, Fla. with rounds 2-7 at the BBT&T Center.
