MHL Bearcats to retire Zach Sill’s number
The Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Hockey League will retire the number of alumnus Zach Sill on Friday night prior to Game 4 of the Kent Cup final.
The Brookfield, N.S. native appeared in 49 regular games with the Bearcats through 2004-2006 collecting 12 goals and 8 assists. His number 23 will hang from the rafters at Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro, N.S.
Sill began the following season in Orono, Me. with the University of Maine Black Bears. He tallied two points in six games before returning to the Bearcats in time for the MHL playoffs. Sill lead Truro to a six-game win over the Summerside Western Capitals to capture the Bearcats’ seventh league title in franchise history. He was named playoff MVP in 2007.
In 2007-2008, Sill made his QMJHL debut with the Moncton Wildcats. He scored 50 points and 173 penalty minutes in 124 regular season games with the Wildcats.
Sill currently plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. The former Cole Harbour Wolfpack was acquired by the Maple Leafs in February, 2015 in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
