REPORT: Sagueneens deal Gignac to Val-d’Or
According to Dave Ainsley of Le Quotidien, the Chicoutimi Sagueneens have traded forward William Gignac to the Val-d’Or Foreurs.
In return, the Sagueneens acquire the Foreurs’ eighth-round pick in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft.
Gignac, 18, will join the West Division club after spending the better part of two seasons in Chicoutimi. In his rookie season, Gignac tallied 11 goals and 12 assists in 49 games with the Sagueneens. In 28 games this season, the Repentigny, Que., native has five goals and three assists for a total of eight points. Originally drafted by the Sagueneens in the 12th round of the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft, the five-foot-seven winger joined the squad after spending the 2012-13 season with College Esther-Blondin Phenix of the QMAAA.
The QMJHL winter trading period began on Dec. 19, 2014 and will run through Jan. 6, 2015.
