CONFIRMED: Sea Dogs deal Fortin to Cataractes


The Saint John Sea Dogs have officially traded Louis-Philip Fortin to the Shawinigan Cataractes. General Manager of the Cataractes, Martin Mondou, confirmed the deal today via his twitter account:

The Sea Dogs receive a third and fourth-round pick(Chicoutimi) from the Cataractes in exchange for the young defenceman. Both picks are in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft.

Fortin, 16, was originally a fifth-round pick of the Quebec Remparts in the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft. The Sherbrooke, Que. product was soon dealt to the Sea Dogs in the trade involving Alex McQuaid.

The 1998-born Fortin has spent the past two seasons with the QMAAA’s Magog Cantonniers. In 2013-14, Fortin tallied 8 points in 41 games with the Cantonniers. He is set to make his QMJHL debut Thursday, December 18th as the Cataractes visit the Sherbrooke Phoenix.

The QMJHL trading period begins officially on Dec. 19.
