Wildcats’ Conor Garland named CHL Player of The Week

The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Conor Garland of the Moncton Wildcats is the CHL Player of the Week for the second straight week this time scoring five goals and eight assists for 13 points with a plus-minus rating of plus-9 for the week ending November 16.

Garland earns consecutive weekly honours after extending his point-streak to 11 straight games and helping the Wildcats earn five of a possible six points last week.  He was named first star in all three of his games beginning last Wednesday night with two goals and two assists in a 7-4 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.  On Friday night he tied a franchise record with a six-point performance netting a hat-trick and three assists as part of an 8-3 win over the Victoriaville Tigres, then finished the week on Saturday with three assists despite a 5-4 shootout loss to the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Garland, an 18-year-old from Scituate, MA, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Wildcats.  He has jumped to second overall in league scoring with 42 points including 14 goals and 28 assists in 24 games and becomes the first player to earn back-to-back CHL Player of the Week awards since current New York Ranger Anthony Duclair achieved the feat last season with the Quebec Remparts.

Also considered for the award this week were a pair of Buffalo Sabres prospects including Sam Reinhart of the Kootenay Ice and Justin Bailey of the Kitchener Rangers.  In two games last week Reinhart scored a goal with six assists while Bailey also recorded seven points netting four goals and three assists in three games.
