Russia edges WHL in game two of Subway Super Series

BRANDON, MAN. – Pavel Kraskovsky scored two goals, including the game winner, as Team Russia took game two of the Subway Super Series 3-2 at the Keystone Centre on Tuesday.

Andrey Alexeev also added a goal for the Russians.

Joe Hicketts and Conner Bleackley replied with goals for the Western Hockey League.

Russia opened the scoring on the power play at 10:07 of the first period as Pavel Kraskovsky scored his first goal of the tournament, Ivan Provorov and Egor Kroshkov added the assists.

The Russians added to their lead at 9:00 of the second period as Andrey Alexeev found the back of the net for his first goal of the tournament beating Edmonton Oil Kings goaltender Tristan Jarry, Kraskovsky and Kroshkov recorded the helpers on the goal.

The Western Hockey League cut Team Russia’s lead to one as Joe Hicketts fired a rocket beating Russian goaltender Denis Kostin on the powe play at 3:46 of the third period, Morgan Klimchuk and Sam Reinhart were awarded with the assists.

Russia regained the two goal lead as Kraskovsky scored his second goal of the game, second of the tournament, at 14:01 of the final frame, Rushan Rafikov and Ilya Korenev picked up the helpers.

Team WHL did add another goal at 14:46 of the third period, but it wasn’t enough, as Conner Bleackley fired home his first goal of the tournament, Tyson Baillie and Cole Ully found the score sheet with the assists on the goal.

Kostin made 34 saves in the win for the Russians. Jarry turned aside 15 of 18 shots in the loss for the Western Hockey League.

The Russians move on to the Ontario Hockey League for a two-game series starting Thursday at 7 p.m. EST in Peterborough, Ont.
