The Val d’Or Foreurs will want to work on holding a lead after giving it up twice in a 7-4 loss to the Sherbrooke Phoenix on Saturday night, Sept. 20.

The Foreurs led 2-0 and 3-2 but saw both leads falter as the Phoenix rallied to make it 2-1, then 2-2, before tying it up 3-3 in the second and going on to the win.

Sherbrooke’s offensive explosion was led by Simon Desbiens, a 2011 draft pick by Chicoutimi. The 19-year-old tallied a hat trick and an assist, while Kevin Dominique scored twice, including the eventual game winner. Desbiens’ third goal was into an empty net.

Aaron Hoyles and Vincent Deslauriers added single markers.

Kay Schweri picked up three assists, while Daniel Audette chipped in with two helpers.

For the Foreurs, Anthony Richard had a goal and an assists, while single tallies came off the sticks of Stephen Anderson, Daniel Krenzelok, and Captain Pierr-Maxime Pudrier.

Julien Gauthier earned two assists.

Alex Bureau earned the win as the Phoenix defence kept Val d’Or under double digit shots in each period. Bureau turned away 19 of 23 shots he faced for the victory.

Etienne Montpetit suffered the loss surrendering six goals on 38 shots.

Val d’Or is back in action on Sunday Sept. 21 when they host the Rimouski Oceanic. Game time is set for 4 p.m. EDT.
