Former Charlottetown Islanders Vice President of Operations Trent Birt has found a new home with the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

The Summerside Western Capitals announced this week that in an organizational shake-up, they have hired Birt to become the team’s new Vice President of Business Operations.

While with the Islanders, he was instrumental in brokering a deal with the Savard family which saved the then-P.E.I. Rocket from a likely relocation.

Birt joins a team that has won three Kent Cup Championships in the past six years, along with one Fred Page Cup as Eastern Canadian Junior A Champions and a were runners-up at the 2013 RBC Cup as hosts.

Birt’s hiring was just one of three announcements made during the press conference that took place on Tuesday. The second announcement centered around the slashing of ticket prices following an online fan survey revealed ticket pricing as a major source of concern.

The final announcement was that the team would be undergoing a complete rebranding of the team’s on-ice look with new uniforms and pants. The team decided to leave the look, style and colour of the re-brand a mystery for now. However, the new look will be unveiled during the Capitals’ home-opener on Sunday, Oct. 1 against the Amherst Ramblers.
