Sea Dogs make pair of Import picks
The Saint John Sea Dogs selected two players during today’s CHL Import Draft via telephone conference.
With Jurij Repe signing a contract to play for AZ Havirov in Czech Republic and Juraj Siska not playing a single game last season due to injury, the Sea Dogs had both import spots open.
First, Saint John selected Czech defenseman Jakub Zboril with the fifth overall pick. The 17-year-old is listed at six-foot-one, 185 pounds and is eligible for next year’s NHL Entry Draft. Brother of former Titan Adam Zboril, Jakub registered five goals and 16 assists in 36 games for HC Kometa Brno U20. He also played 26 games with the Czech Republic Under-18 team notching four goals and six assists.
In the second round, the Sea Dogs opted for a forward, selecting right winger Nikita Li. The Russian-born, 17-year-old played last season with MHK Spartak in the MHL and is listed at six-foot-two and 131 pounds. It is believed that Li also has South Korean citizenship.
