Guelph Storm become first team to join London in MasterCard Memorial Cup

The Guelph Storm are the first team to join the host London Knights at this year’s MasterCard Memorial Cup, starting May 16 in London, Ont.

The Storm advanced to the MasterCard Memorial Cup with a 4-3 come from behind victory over the North Bay Battalion at the Sleeman Centre on Friday. With the win, Guelph captures the Ontario Hockey League’s J. Ross Robertson Cup with a four-games-to-one series victory.

Kerby Rychel had a pair of goals while Matt Finn and Brock McGinn scored single markers for the Storm.

Nick Paul, Barclay Goodrow and Brett McKenzie buried goals for the Battalion.

Justin Nichols made 23 saves in the win for Guelph, while Jake Smith turned aside 34 of 38 shots in the loss for North Bay.

The Storm open the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup on Saturday, May 17, against the Western Hockey League champions.
