Injury Update: Jonathan Diaby
Victoriaville Tigres defenseman Jonathan-Ismael Diaby will be out for at least six months following shoulder surgery. The 18-year old injured his left shoulder in the off-season and it was operated on successfully on the 3rd of July. Diaby was picked in the 3rd round of this year’s NHL draft, 64th overall.
Diaby’s exceptional play last season caught the eye of scouts. Realizing he was going to be one of the older players who would be counted on to be a leader in the Tigres’ dressing room, the Blainville, QC native stepped up his play. He recorded 26 points in 67 games in 2012-13, finishing second in defenseman scoring on the Tigres.
Diaby would also become a physical force on the back-end. His rough and sometimes reckless style of play earned him 117 penalty minutes.
After having already picked Seth Jones, another defenseman, the Nashville Predators made Diaby their 3rd round pick in the draft. If he is to someday make the Predators, he will have to increase his skating and his shooting.
Yanick Jean will miss having a diverse player like Diaby on his roster for the first half of the season and his defense partner, Czech import Petr Sidlik will also be counting the days until his teammate returns.
