Cats Expand Camp Roster

The Moncton Wildcats have begun filling out their training camp rosters this week, receiving confirmations from four out of territory free agents. Defencemen Cam Wood and Wade Kropp have accepted invites along with forwards Nick Ford and Daniel LaFontaine.

The announcement came just days after 2013 draft pick Willy Smith committed to attending camp after spending two seasons with the Springfield Pics of the Eastern Junior Hockey League in the United States.

Wildcats Director of Hockey Operations Danny Flynn is quoted on the Cats website about the free agents stating they “are four very solid players and we’re very excited to have them come to Moncton.”

Flynn told the website that Smith played both defence and forward positions last season and “will be a solid addition to our team and has been playing junior hockey since he was 15.”

Smith will likely have a lot to show the hockey world after missing a portion of last season with mononucleosis. When he was healthy, Smith put up 12 points in 54 games.

“I saw him this week in Fredericton and he was certainly one of the best players for his age group at that camp,” Flynn is quoted on the website. “He should mature into a very good major junior player and we are really excited to have him join the Wildcats.”

The Wildcats will open their training camp on August 12. According to the Cats website, the team is expected to announce their Maritime and Quebec player invitees next week.
