Denis Kamaev won’t be back in Sherbrooke
It seems like the Sherbrooke Phoenix just lost an offensive leader. Forward Denis Kamaev told GM Patrick Charbonneau that he isn’t coming back next year. The team released him on Thursday.
Kamaev, 19, has been one of the most productive players for the team, picking up 36 points in the 41 games he played in the Eastern Townships team. He was mainly used on the first line and on the Power Play.
This announcement comes about one week before the CHL European draft, in which the Phoenix speaks at the 72th pick. They now have the right to bring a second european player, the first one being Defenseman Vladislav Lysenko.
The Phoenix traded a 2013 5th round pick to Quebec and also swapped 2014 first round picks with them to get Kamaev.
