First Round Recap; Nicolas Roy goes 1st Overall


The First round of the 2013 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft has come to an end. Many players were taken in there projected slots. There were  some players taken higher then they were ranked and others that fell down the draft board. The opening round also featured a number of trades including a couple highly confusing ones.

Multiple teams had more then one first round pick, including Val D’or who had three. Charlottetown, Cape Breton, Saint John, Acadie-Bathurst, and Gatineau all had two first round draft choices.

The 1st round selections were as follows:

  1. Cape Breton – Nicolas Roy, Amos
  2. Shawinigan – Anthony Beauvillier, Antoine-Girouard
  3. Saint John – Nathan Noel, Shattuck St. Mary’s
  4. Sherbrooke – Jeremy Roy, Antoine-Girouard
  5. Acadie-Bathurst – Guillaume Brisebois, Antoine-Girouard
  6. Val D’or – Julien Gauthier, Laval-Montreal
  7. Chicoutimi – Jeremy Bouchard, Chateauguay
  8. Val D’or – David Henley, Amos
  9. Gatineau – Alexandre Alain, St-Francois
  10. Gatineau – Alex Dostie, Magog
  11. Drummondville – Cameron Askew, Cushing Academy
  12. Cape Breton – Jason Bell, Laval-Montreal
  13. Charlottetown – Daniel Sprong, Lac St-Louis Tigres
  14. Acadie-Bathurst – Christophe Boivin, St-Francois
  15. Baie-Comeau – Nicolas Meloche, St-Eustache
  16. Val D’or – Olivier Galipeau, Esther-Blondin
  17. Saint John – Will Thompson, Rothesay Netherwood
  18. Chicoutimi – Frederic Allard, St-Francois
  19. Charlottetown – Alexandre Goulet, Levis


Some notable players that were not taken in the first round:

Luc Deschenes – Ranked 15th by Central Scouting

Thomas Chabot – Ranked 16th by Central Scouting


Other Notes:

Alex Dostie and Alexandre Goulet were all taken in the 1st round. They were ranked 19th and 22nd respectively.

American Cameron Askew was taken 11th overall by Drummondville. He was commited to Boston University but will reportedly play for the Voltigeurs next season.
